In The Beginning
Hello! I am Cheri Day. For most of my childhood, I grew up a city kid. However, my father was a school teacher and with summers off, many of our family vacations and holidays were spent on my grandparent’s farms, nestled down in southern Alberta. They both farmed a mix of cereal crops and raised a variety of cattle, sheep and horses, chickens and turkeys. I greatly appreciate the freedom and adventures I had alongside my siblings and cousins, as we helped with farm chores, explored the farmyard barns, and roamed the nearby hills & rivers.
The older I got, the more intrigued I became in returning to my roots.
I later met my sweetheart, Jordan, while going to college and we married. In the first seven years, we moved around quite a bit as we both finished our post-secondary education. I continued my studies in nursing and became a registered nurse, while Jordan obtained degrees in economics and accounting.
We later settled back in the Edmonton, Alberta area and soon found a property that well suited our young, growing family and rural dreams. We wanted our children to roam free, to play and to explore. Accompanied with learning to work, to take care of animals and to participate in the local community 4-H and scouting programs. Next to raising our children in a rural environment, Jordan and I were keen on growing and raising our own food.
This established Day Farm, and has taken our family on many great adventures over the years.
We’re very grateful to family, friends, and community (and YouTube) for their help, guidance, and advice.
Covid-19 Pandemic
There was a lot of changes that occurred for us as a result of the pandemic and being forced to isolate on the farm. Pre-pandemic, Jordan travelled for work and was often away. With the travel restrictions, not only was Jordan home every day, our children were also home for school. This resulted in us taking the opportunity to reflect on our family, farm and farming practices. And we decided to make some changes. Our research began…
The intent of my blog is to share our journey, our progress on various projects, a peek at our daily routines, and to share other things of interest.
